A car that never gets dirty? That sounds awesome, but takes away the romance of being intimate with your motor vehicles, just before a spin in the city. Nissan clearly have no regard for that romance, and maybe for good reasons. It's environmentally friendly to no wash your car, because it saves many litres of water. On the other hand, it takes away from those small business owners whose livelihoods depends on their car washes.

In a press release from last week, Nissan unveiled the first of what will be a game changer in car industry. “In response, Nissan has begun tests on innovative paint technology that repels mud, rain and everyday dirt, meaning drivers may never have to clean their car again. The specially engineered super-hydrophobic and oleophobic paint, which repels water and oils, has been applied to the all-new Nissan Note to create the world's first self-cleaning car. Nissan is the first carmaker to apply the technology, called Ultra-Ever Dry®, on automotive bodywork. By creating a protective layer of air between the paint and environment, it effectively stops standing water and road spray from creating dirty marks on the car's surface.”

There's a lot more that Nissan goes in on the press release, which you can find here. But with that aside, here's a video of the self-cleaning car works.
